Jatinangor\u2013Tuesday, June 23, 2026. A Padjadjaran University team had the opportunity to participate in the Marine Tourism Competition Finals, organized by the Maritime Tourism Association of the Padjadjaran University Vocational School as part of the Marine Tourism Festival 5.0 at Graha Sanusi Hardjadinata, Padjadjaran University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This competition was a very valuable experience for us. Honestly, the decision to participate was not easy. As a team consisting of students from various study programs, we faced various challenges ranging from difficult schedules to each member’s busy schedules facing final exams, to involvement in various other competitions simultaneously.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Padjadjaran University team was led by Library and Information Science student Iwan Ridwan Ramdani. She collaborated with four other team members: Vina Cahyarani (Public Financial Administration), Nilla Amelia Nabila (Public Sector Accounting), Zahra Amalia (Journalism), and Agil Rusmana (Government Administration). This diversity of academic backgrounds was our main strength in developing a rich strategy and perspective for this competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, the decision to register a new team was made just one day before registration closed. With very limited time, the entire process of developing ideas, writing proposals, developing concepts, and creating prototypes was carried out quickly, adaptively, and spontaneously. Limited communication due to our busy academic schedules meant we had to learn to build trust with each other and maximize the contributions of each team member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, despite these limitations, we learned that commitment doesn’t always have to be realized in perfect conditions. Little by little, each idea began to take shape, each part began to take shape, and each member contributed to the best of their ability. Even the prototype, which was a crucial part of the final presentation, was only completed the night before the competition, after a long process filled with discussions, revisions, and late-night struggles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this competition, we are promoting the Ocean Legacy Bank (OLB), an innovation born of concern over the threat of climate change, which not only has the potential to destroy coastal areas but also the local knowledge that lives within them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ocean Legacy Bank exists as the National Marine Knowledge Bank, a platform that aims to collect, document, verify, and preserve the knowledge of coastal communities threatened by erosion, sea level rise, and the sinking of small islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This initiative stems from the belief that when a coastal area is lost, it is not just the land that is lost, but also the folklore, traditional navigation techniques, marine conservation knowledge, maritime culture, and community identity that have been passed down across generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through a technology-based approach and community participation, Ocean Legacy Bank offers various innovations such as AI-Powered Knowledge Preservation, Marine Memory Mapping, Marine Memory Volunteer, and the utilization of local knowledge as a sustainable educational tourism attraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than just a competition, this journey has taught us that the courage to try is often the first step to invaluable experiences. Although we didn’t win the main prize, we returned home with something far more valuable: experience, learning, friendships, and the belief that every process undertaken with sincerity will always have meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We extend our deepest gratitude to Ms. Evi, our advisor, for all the guidance, input, and support she provided throughout the process, from developing our ideas to the competition. We also extend our gratitude to Ms. Saleha, Head of the Library and Information Science Study Program, and Prof. Ninis, our advisor, who consistently supported and motivated us to continue developing, to dare to try, and to never stop learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This journey may not have ended with victory on stage, but it has been a triumph in the process of learning, growing, and proving that limitations are no reason to stop moving forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because ultimately, the courage to begin is the first victory to be achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
