Muhaemin, a student from the Library and Information Science (LIS) Program at Fikom Unpad, together with supervisors Elnovani Lusiana and Ute Lies Siti Khadijah, has published a scientific article titled \u201cThe Correlation Between Students\u2019 Information Literacy and the Utilisation of AI Text Generators in Academic Studies.\u201d<\/em> The article was published in the Research Literacy Journal (RLJ) Q3, Volume 10, Number 2, 2024.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This publication focuses on the phenomenon of the growing use of AI Text Generators (ATG) among students. Such technology offers a range of benefits, especially in assisting students with writing research proposals, developing ideas, finding references, and improving the quality of academic writing. However, unwise use of the technology may also lead to negative impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The background of this research stems from the need to understand the role of information literacy in the use of artificial intelligence\u2013based technology. The main objective is to illustrate the correlation between students\u2019 information literacy and the utilisation of AI Text Generators in completing academic studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research applied a simple correlation method to measure the degree of relationship between two variables: students\u2019 level of information literacy (based on five key indicators) and the intensity of their use of AI Text Generators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The findings show a significant correlation with a moderate level of strength. ChatGPT and Perplexity emerged as the most frequently used ATGs among students, followed by several other platforms. The main reasons students used ATGs include idea and information development, time efficiency, writing assistance, concept development, provision of references, problem-solving, and improving the quality of writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These findings highlight that information literacy plays an essential role in determining how optimally students can use AI Text Generators. Nevertheless, the two variables are not entirely dependent on one another, which means that strong literacy skills are still required to maximise the benefits of this technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This article aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education and Goal 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Therefore, the research is expected to serve as a reference for the utilisation of AI-based technology in higher education environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
