West Bandung, January 25, 2025 \u2013 Students from the Library and Information Science (PSI) Study Program at the Faculty of Communication Sciences (FIKOM), Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD), have recently released a scholarly publication that reveals important findings about the role of circular migrant fathers in motivating their children’s learning. The research, titled “The Effectiveness of Interpersonal Communication by Circular Migrant Fathers in Motivating Teenage Learning in West Bandung,” found that effective communication between fathers and children has a highly significant impact, even amidst the challenges of physical distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This publication was initiated by Elien Erliana, a PSI FIKOM UNPAD student, under the guidance of prominent lecturers Agus Setiaman and Samson CMS. The research focuses on the communication dynamics between fathers who work away from home and teenagers in West Bandung Regency. The background for the study is the reality that many parents, especially circular migrant fathers, face significant obstacles in their role of guiding their children’s learning due to work mobility that requires them to live apart from their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research measured the effectiveness of communication based on five key aspects: openness, empathy, support, positive attitude, and equality. Using a quantitative descriptive method, the research team collected data from 100 high school students in West Bandung. The sampling was conducted using a purposive sampling technique with the Taro Yamane formula, ensuring the data were representative and valid for analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results were very encouraging. Data analysis showed that all communication aspects studied were in a good category. Furthermore, overall, the effectiveness of interpersonal communication by circular migrant fathers in motivating teenage learning in West Bandung was categorized as very effective. This finding proves that despite being physically separated, quality communication can bridge the distance and still have a strong positive impact on a child’s motivation to learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conclusion of this research reaffirms the vital role of communication in the parent-child relationship, especially in supporting teenagers’ academic success. This scholarly publication not only provides valuable insights for families facing similar situations but also contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 3, which is Good Health and Well-being, and number 4, Quality Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This scholarly publication has been published in Komserval: Jurnal Komunikasi Universal, making it an important reference source for academics and practitioners. The research recommends that circular migrant fathers continue to improve their communication skills and utilize various technologies to maintain a close and productive relationship with their children. This way, the challenge of distance no longer becomes a barrier to providing full support for a child’s education and future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
