Cindy Amelia Putri, a student from the Library and Information Science Program, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, has published a scientific article entitled “Information Security and User Privacy in Digital Library Services.” This publication explores the challenges faced by digital libraries in ensuring data security and protecting user privacy amidst the rapid development of information technology.
This research was carried out with the guidance of PSI Fikom Unpad lecturers: Dr. Rully Khairul Anwar, Dra. Siti Chaerani Djen Amar, M.Hum., and Dr. Evi Nursanti Rukmana. This collaboration reflects Fikom Unpad’s commitment to encouraging student research that not only advances academic knowledge but also provides practical contributions to the digital library field.
The background of this study lies in the transformation of libraries from conventional systems to digital-based services, which has improved access to information for users. However, this development also brings new challenges in terms of data security and user privacy. The main objective of this research is to analyze security risks, technological implementations, and privacy policies that play a crucial role in protecting user data.
To achieve this, the study employed a narrative literature review method, analyzing 12 relevant references concerning information security and user privacy within digital library services. The analysis focused on identifying potential threats, security technologies, and supporting regulations.
The findings reveal that digital libraries are vulnerable to threats such as computer viruses and brute force attacks. To safeguard sensitive user data, the application of security technologies such as data encryption and firewalls is highly important. Moreover, regulations and privacy policies like the GDPR significantly assist digital libraries in maintaining user privacy.
This article has been published in Jurnal Visi Pustaka. The findings provide valuable insights for digital library managers in Indonesia regarding strategies to enhance data protection and build user trust.
This research is closely aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and Goal 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. By highlighting the importance of managing information security and user privacy, this work contributes to the development of digital library services that are secure, equitable, and sustainable.
