Library and Information Science Study Program Lecturers Participate in Curriculum Review Discussion with Alumni

Jatinangor–Friday, June 19, 2026. To align graduate competencies with the dynamics of the rapidly evolving industry, the Library and Information Science (PSI) Study Program, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Padjadjaran University, held a curriculum and graduate profile review meeting. The event, held online via Zoom Meeting, brought together lecturers, professors, and alumni representatives from various expertise backgrounds to formulate a new direction for information science education going forward.

This strategic meeting was prompted by a proposed curriculum change focused on streamlining and modernizing courses. Currently, the Unpad PSI Study Program has three main graduate profiles: Librarian, Digital Asset Manager, and Infopreneur. Through this focused discussion, the study program curriculum was reviewed to address the challenges of the intelligent economy and artificial intelligence (AI) era, without abandoning the core values of traditional science.

During the discussion, alumni provided comprehensive input from a practitioner perspective. On the one hand, alumni emphasized the importance of maintaining the “spirit” of library science, such as classification and cataloging, combined with modern terms like metadata. On the other hand, the urgency of digitalization and practical competencies was a major focus, ranging from mastery of digital marketing, digital asset management, the application of ethical AI, to aligning the curriculum with the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) so that students are ready for certification before graduation.

Responding to this input, the Head of the Library and Information Science Study Program, Dr. Saleha Rodiah, emphasized the importance of contributing ideas and suggestions from alumni who have long been involved as practitioners, so that the 2026 curriculum draft we are drafting is relevant to market needs. The professors, attended by Prof. Ninis and Prof. Agus, also welcomed this modernization proposal and suggested realistic solutions, such as modernizing the descriptions and Course Learning Outcomes (CPMK) to address the stringent BAN-PT assessment regulations.

As a follow-up plan, the Unpad Library and Information Science Study Program will restructure and adjust course terminology by combining traditional values with modern technology trends such as cloud computing and big data. In addition, the learning process will be more focused on tangible work outcomes, such as creating digital portfolios for students on LinkedIn. The study program also schedules follow-up meetings to further refine competency outputs and involve practitioners in collaborative classes.
