Cantika Fitria Putri Fardi, a student of the Library and Information Science Program (PSI), Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, together with supervising lecturers Rully Khairul Anwar, Siti Chaerani Djen Amar, and Evi Nursanti Rukmana, has published a scientific article entitled “The Development of University Library Services.”
The article was published in Jurnal Abdi Pustaka: Journal of Library and Archival Studies, Vol. 4, No. 2, December 2024. The study highlights the development of university library services in Indonesia as a key factor in optimizing library functions to meet users’ information needs.
The research employed a narrative literature review, analyzing 12 references from Google Scholar published between 2013 and 2023 related to university library services. The findings show that library services are divided into technical services and user services. Technical services involve processing library materials before they are made available, while user services include reading room services, circulation, reference services, OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), and more.
Library service innovations are implemented through social media and websites, including the development of digital libraries, ask librarian services, book delivery services, and library movie shows. These digital services provide users with convenience, comfort, speed, and accuracy in searching for information according to their needs.
In conclusion, university library services in Indonesia continue to evolve alongside advances in information and communication technology, enhancing service quality and the user experience.
This article is relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), emphasizing the importance of technological innovation in library services to support literacy and effective access to information for students and the academic community.
