Sumedang – October 19, 2025. The Library and Information Science Student Association, under the Community Service Department, successfully implemented a community service activity titled “Controlling Data,” which aimed to support the management of book collections and the organization of the Panti Baca Ceria Community Reading Park (TBM) at Jl. Cut Nyak Dien No. 91, Regol Wetan, Sumedang Sel. District, Sumedang Regency, West Java 45311. This activity took place on Saturday and Sunday, October 18-19, 2025, and involved 49 student volunteers.
During the activity, the students engaged in various activities, such as book collection management, labeling, simple classification, and even reorganizing the shelves at the Panti Baca Ceria Community Reading Park. Through this activity, students not only practiced the academic competencies they had learned in college but also contributed to improving the comfort and ease of access to information for the public. This effort aligns with the PSI Study Program’s vision to produce professional, adaptive information professionals capable of positively impacting the development of community literacy.
Prior to the “Controlling Data” activity, volunteers received three training sessions on October 8, 10, and 15, 2025. This training aimed to equip students with adequate skills and knowledge in library management, as well as an understanding of cataloging, classification, and labeling.
This activity received full support and enthusiasm from both the Community Reading Gardens (Taman Bacaan Masyarakat) and the volunteers involved. This collaboration encouraged participants to apply their academic competencies while providing direct benefits to the community.
Through this activity, the Library and Information Science Study Program at Padjadjaran University once again demonstrated its commitment to integrating science with community service as part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. It is hoped that activities such as “Controlling Data” will inspire students and the community to continue working together to improve literacy and reading interest, as well as strengthen the role of the Community Reading Gardens (Taman Bacaan Masyarakat) as centers of lifelong learning.
