The Department of Student Advocacy and Services of the Library and Information Science Student Association convened the First Program Dialogue, held in person at Moestopo Hall, Building 4, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, on Friday, June 21, 2024. The event was attended by 63 students from the Library and Information Science program, along with 7 faculty members, including Dr. H. Yunus Winoto, M.Pd, Kusnandar, S.Sos., M.Si, Dr. Ute Lies Siti Khadijah, S.Sos., M.Si, Dr. Saleha Rodiah, S.Sos., M.Si, Dr. Elnovani Lusiana, S.Sos., M.Si, Fitri Perdana, S.Sos., M.I.Kom, and Evi Nursanti Rukmana, M.I.Kom. The purpose of the event was to collect student aspirations concerning complaints, opinions, and expectations on both academic and non-academic issues.
The First Program Dialogue commenced with an opening by Gwina Raquel Theresia and Crystal Vabian Wintani, followed by welcoming remarks from Muhammad Syazarwan, the Chairman of Himaka Fikom Unpad Panasea Cabinet, and Dr. Ute Lies Siti Khadijah, S.Sos., M.Si, the Head of the Library and Information Science program. The event, moderated by Shofy Dwi Hidayanti, began with introductions and initial remarks, followed by data presentations from Naufal Ripqi Rabbani and Nadia Nila Farodisa. The data, derived from a Google Form questionnaire, had 110 respondents, with the majority being from the class of 2023, accounting for 66.4%.
Following the data presentation, faculty members provided responses to the presented data, which was followed by a question-and-answer session, culminating in the closing of the event. A primary topic of discussion was the assignment of writing scientific articles and the requirement to submit these articles to journals. Some students expressed concerns that their articles were not yet suitable for publication and worried about the potential implications on the quality and credibility of the Library and Information Science program. Addressing these concerns, Mr. Kusnandar, S.Sos., M.Si suggested that students communicate their academic difficulties to the program and recommended that article assignments be restricted to the courses on Scientific Article Writing and Thesis. He also proposed the creation of an agreement form between students and faculty regarding publication costs. Dr. Ute Lies Siti Khadijah, S.Sos., M.Si also responded, emphasizing that article publication should be flexible according to the students’ interests and abilities and underscored the importance of adhering to timelines to avoid delaying graduation.
The convening of the First Program Dialogue is anticipated to enable students and faculty to collaboratively address and resolve existing challenges and issues, thereby fostering a more effective and harmonious academic environment.
