The speaker and participants in the cataloging tutorial training process
This training was held based on the understanding that a library is the heart of knowledge. For its function to run optimally, a library must be well-managed, and one of the most effective ways is through the systematic processing of library materials, such as creating a catalog. Cataloging skills are vital for library administrators because a good catalog allows the collection to be found easily and quickly by library users or patrons.
During the training session, Evi Nursanti Rukmana, M.I.Kom., presented the material comprehensively. First, participants were given a deep understanding of the importance of cataloging in a library, the practical steps in the process, how to create a main catalog, and an introduction to the concept of an electronic catalog. This theoretical approach became a strong foundation before participants moved to the practical session.
As a follow-up to the material, the participants were divided into small groups in Zoom breakout rooms. Each group was tasked with creating one catalog from a book they had. This process not only tested their theoretical understanding but also encouraged teamwork. After the discussion and task completion session, each group presented their work, providing an opportunity to share knowledge and get direct feedback from the speaker.
This training is expected to have a significant impact on improving the competency of library administrators in Indonesia, so that the collection of knowledge in every library can be managed more professionally.
