Bandung—Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Professor Dr. Agus Rusmana, Drs., M.A., a lecturer in the Library and Information Science Study Program, was inaugurated as a full professor at Universitas Padjadjaran in the field of digital media literacy. The ceremony was led by the Rector of Unpad, Professor Arief S. Kartasasmita, and chaired directly by the Head of the Unpad Board of Professors, Professor Arief Anshory Yusuf. The event took place at the Graha Sanusi Hardjadinata Building.
Professor Dr. Agus Rusmana, Drs., M.A., delivered an inaugural address titled “Building Digital Media Literacy as a Foundation for Social Welfare.” In his speech, he highlighted that digital media has both positive and negative impacts on its users. He emphasized that digital media is merely a tool operated by human command. Therefore, people must have the skills to operate and utilize digital media wisely (Rusmana, 2025).
Digital media has become a platform for users of all ages—from children to teenagers and adults—to express themselves. However, this self-expression can sometimes be excessive, leading to the public disclosure of personal information. This can threaten a user’s security and alter their social behavior.

Therefore, users must have digital media literacy skills to recognize the characteristics of threats that emerge on the digital platforms they use. This way, users will no longer fall victim to scams due to a lack of vigilance (Rusmana, 2025). Users will be able to decide when, why, and how to use digital media confidently to empower themselves. They can use digital media wisely and disseminate information correctly. Thus, “digital media literacy becomes a foundation for social welfare,” said Professor Dr. Agus Rusmana, Drs., M.A.
