Library and Information Science Student at Faculty of Communication Science Universitas Padjadjaran Explores Library Transformation through Social Inclusion via the Lipperpul Program in Purwakarta Regency

A student from the Library and Information Science Program, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, Titis Ardia Meva, has published a scientific article titled “Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation at the Regional Library of Purwakarta Regency: A Case Study on Lipperpul (Five Flagship Library Programs).” This publication was supervised by lecturers from the LIS Program, Fikom Unpad, Elnovani Lusiana and Andri Yanto.

The research was conducted in Bandung and focused on the implementation of the Lipperpul program at the Regional Library of Purwakarta Regency. The article was officially published in 2024 in Jurnal Literatify: Trends in Library Development.

The study aimed to explore the application of social inclusion through the Lipperpul program at the regional library. This research is expected to contribute to the development of both literature and practices related to social inclusion-based libraries, which have become an important approach in modern librarianship.

A qualitative research method with a case study approach was employed. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review. The research involved three young expert librarians from the Regional Library of Purwakarta Regency, one basic guitar class instructor, and two community members who benefited from the Lipperpul services. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.

The findings revealed that the implementation of Lipperpul played a significant role in fostering social inclusion within the community. Three key aspects of library transformation through Lipperpul were identified: social transformation, community empowerment, and lifelong learning. This positions the library not only as an information center but also as a safe and productive space for community development.

This study is relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), emphasizing the role of libraries in ensuring equal access, social innovation, and community-based development.
