A student of the Library and Information Science Program, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, Zahra Wenning Tyas, has published a scientific article titled “Knowledge Sharing in Painting to Enhance the Competence and Welfare of Artists in the Gurat Community of Jelekong Art and Culture Village.” This publication was supervised by LIS Fikom Unpad lecturers, Prijana and Fitri Perdana.
The research was conducted in Jelekong Art and Culture Village, Bandung Regency, focusing on the knowledge sharing practices in painting among members of the Gurat Community. The article was officially published in 2024 in the Jurnal Nasional Pendidikan Humaniora (JPH).
The Gurat Community serves as a platform for Jelekong painters to exchange experiences and knowledge in the field of painting. Koh, the figure who first introduced painting to the village, became an inspiration for the growth of knowledge-sharing traditions among the artists.
This study aimed to describe the processes and benefits of knowledge sharing in painting carried out by the artists. A qualitative method with a case study approach was employed, with data collected through direct observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review.
The findings reveal that the knowledge-sharing process begins with the establishment of mutual trust among painters. Artists then learn from more experienced members and are given opportunities to directly practice painting techniques on canvas while receiving feedback and corrections from their peers.
Knowledge sharing within the Gurat Community has been shown to improve the competence and skills of painters, enabling them to produce artworks with diverse objects and styles that meet market demand. Moreover, this practice has led to increased painting sales, thereby improving the welfare of the artists.
This research is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), emphasizing the role of knowledge sharing as a means to enhance competence, productivity, and the economic welfare of art communities.
