Library and Information Science Students Host an Educational Seminar on Personal Archives

BANDUNG – On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, students from the Library and Information Science Program, in collaboration with the Bandung City Archives and Library Office (Disarpus), held an educational seminar titled “Nurturing Memories: The Importance of Personal Archives in Daily Life.” The event took place in the main hall of the Bandung City Archives and Library Office. The goal of the event was to raise public awareness about the importance of preserving personal archives and to provide knowledge on how to store them correctly and systematically. The event was free and open to the public, though participants were required to register in advance through a provided link.

The seminar featured an inspiring speaker, H. Medi Mahendra, AP., S.Sos., M.Si., who serves as the Secretary of the Office and a lecturer in Digital Archiving. He shared his knowledge and experience in managing personal archives. The event provided valuable information for attendees. During the seminar, participants were invited to take part in a quiz for a chance to win attractive prizes. The committee also provided snacks and refreshments to keep everyone energized. All participants received merchandise created by the organizers.

A total of 55 people attended the event, with 40 participants joining in person and enthusiastically following all the activities. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident during the active Q&A session with the speaker and the interactive quiz. This shows that the public is becoming more aware of the importance of preserving personal archives. It is hoped that participants will apply the knowledge they gained to better manage their personal archives and foster a greater awareness of the importance of preserving family history. The event concluded with a photo session involving the participants and staff from the Archives and Library Office, followed by a symbolic plaque presentation.
