LIS Fikom Unpad Student Maps Research Trends in Local Knowledge for Disaster Mitigation Using Bibliometric Analysis

A student from the Library and Information Science (LIS) Study Program at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, Alifa Ufaira Yusuf, has authored a significant scientific article in the field of disaster studies. With the support of PSI lecturers, Wina Erwina and Yunus Winoto, the article, written in 2024, is titled “Bibliometric Mapping with VOSviewer on Local Knowledge of Disaster Mitigation.”

This research was motivated by an important objective: to conduct a bibliometric mapping of scientific literature on local knowledge in disaster mitigation. Although many bibliometric mapping studies have been conducted in various fields, research that specifically maps the research trends on local knowledge in the context of disasters is still very limited. This article aims to fill that gap and produce a more in-depth analysis.

In its implementation, this study applied a bibliometric method with a quantitative approach. Research data was sourced from the reputable scientific database, Scopus, with a publication range from 2019 to 2023. To visualize the data and the relationships between studies, Alifa used VOSviewer software with the co-citation analysis technique, visualized through network and density maps.

From the analysis, 98 documents were found to have strong co-citation patterns. The analysis also highlighted that the most cited research topics in this field are the use of local knowledge for disaster preparedness and the integration of indigenous knowledge with modern science for disaster risk reduction.

The main finding from this mapping was the identification of 8 distinct research clusters, which indicate the primary focuses of researchers worldwide. These clusters cover various specific topics, ranging from the integration of indigenous and scientific knowledge in building disaster resilience, disaster risk management, to the importance of active community participation in mitigation efforts.

This work by a PSI Fikom Unpad student provides a valuable contribution to researchers in the field of disaster studies. The resulting bibliometric map can serve as a guide for observing trends, identifying research gaps, and formulating new research directions in the future, while also affirming the importance of local knowledge as a vital component in modern disaster management.
