Unpad LIS Students Publish Article on the Implementation of Information Technology in Libraries Through the Google Scholar Database

BANDUNG, 2024 – A student from the Library and Information Science (LIS) Study Program at Fikom Unpad, Muhammad Nabiel Farabi, along with three lecturers, Dr. Rully Khairul Anwar, Dr. Siti Chaerani Djen Amar, M.A., and Evi Nursanti Rukmana, M.I.Kom., have published a scientific article. The article is titled “Research on the Implementation of Information Technology in Libraries Through the Google Scholar Database: Narrative Literature Review”.

The background of this research is the rapid development of information technology that is changing the way libraries operate. This study aims to conduct a narrative literature review on the implementation of information technology in libraries. The main question is: how can the implementation of information technology improve the efficiency and effectiveness of library services?.

To answer this question, the research used a narrative literature review method. Data was collected from scientific articles published between 2013 and 2023. The selection of articles was based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, such as language (Indonesian and English) and relevant research focus.

The results show that the implementation of information technology has an important role in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of library services. Some examples of the technologies discussed include library management systems, collection digitalization, library portals, RFID, and self-checkout kiosks. The implementation of these technologies is proven to help libraries in managing collections, facilitating access to information, and enhancing the user experience.

This scientific article has been published in the VISI PUSTAKA Journal, Vol. 26 No. 2, August 2024. The findings provide valuable insight that technological innovation is a key element in library modernization. The research affirms that libraries must continue to adapt to technological advancements to remain relevant.

This research aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely point 4 on Quality Education and point 9 on Infrastructure, Industry, and Innovation. It shows that technological innovation in libraries can contribute to improving the quality of education and literacy culture, as well as building a more efficient and modern infrastructure.
