Bandung, September 10, 2025 — Eka Rizky Ramadhan, a student from the Library and Information Science Program (PSI) at the Faculty of Communication Science (FIKOM), Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD), has successfully published a scientific article examining the relationship between the quality of information on a website and the fanaticism of Persib Bandung supporters. This research, supervised by two lecturers, Prof. Agus Rusmana and Dr. Rully Khaerul Anwar, aimed to analyze how accuracy, timeliness, and relevance of information influence supporter loyalty.
The study was conducted in Bandung using a quantitative approach. Eka and his team drew a sample of 100 respondents from a total population of 30,537 members of the Viking Persib Club across various active districts in West Java. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling, ensuring that every member had an equal chance of being selected. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires, interviews, and literature studies, then analyzed using Pearson product-moment correlation.
The findings, published in the Multidisciplinary Scientific Journal (JUKIM), revealed a significant relationship, although the correlations were relatively weak. Eka tested three hypotheses: first, the relationship between information accuracy and fanaticism, which showed a correlation coefficient of 0.131, categorized as very low. Second, the relationship between information timeliness and fanaticism, which also indicated a very low coefficient of 0.082.
Furthermore, the third hypothesis demonstrated a significant relationship between information relevance and fanaticism, with a correlation coefficient of 0.257, categorized as low. Overall, the study concluded that although information quality (in terms of accuracy, timeliness, and relevance) has a significant relationship with supporter fanaticism, the influence is not very strong. This suggests that supporter fanaticism is likely shaped more by other factors beyond information quality.
This research is highly relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Not only does it promote quality education through in-depth research, but it also contributes to a better understanding of how information influences social behavior. This knowledge can help prevent the spread of misinformation and support the development of more peaceful and well-informed communities.
The publication highlights PSI FIKOM UNPAD’s concrete contribution to advancing knowledge in the fields of information and communication. Eka Rizky Ramadhan’s work is expected to serve as a reference for other researchers interested in supporter phenomena and online community dynamics. The findings also open new insights, showing that fanaticism is not only shaped by data and facts but also by identity, traditions, and more complex emotional experiences. (FB)
