Bandung, 2024 – Titis Ardia Meva, a student from the Library and Information Science (PSI) Study Program at Fikom Unpad, has published a scientific article titled “Transformation of a Social Inclusion-Based Library in the Purwakarta Regency Regional Library: A Case Study of Lipperpul, Five Leading Library Programs.” This publication explores how a public library can become an effective hub for social inclusion through innovative programs.
The research was conducted with the support of PSI Fikom Unpad lecturers, namely Dr. Elnovani Lusiana and Andri Yanto, M.I.Kom. This collaboration is part of Fikom Unpad’s commitment to encouraging student research that not only focuses on theory but also provides practical contributions to community development.
The background of the study is a strong interest in the concept of a social inclusion-based library, an approach where libraries strive to provide services that are accessible and beneficial to all members of society, without exception. The main objective of the research was to understand how the Lipperpul (Five Leading Library Programs) at the Purwakarta Regency Regional Library successfully created social inclusion.
To achieve this goal, the study used a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data was collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with three young expert librarians, a guitar class instructor, and two users of the Lipperpul programs, as well as a review of documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.
The research findings show that Lipperpul successfully created social inclusion through three main pillars: social transformation, community empowerment, and lifelong learning. These programs do not just provide access to books but also offer various activities that allow people from different backgrounds to interact, learn, and develop new skills.
The scientific article has been published in the Jurnal Literatify: Trends in Library Development. These findings provide valuable insights for other library managers in Indonesia on how to design and implement programs focused on social inclusion.
This research is highly relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and Goal 10 on Reduced Inequalities. By showing how a library can innovate to serve all segments of society, this work provides a concrete example of how an institution can contribute to creating a more just and equitable society.
