LIS Fikom Unpad Students Research Instagram Account @folkative as a Creative Space for Information Dissemination for the Younger Generation

Bandung, 2025 — Research by Adinda Marzella, supervised by Dr. Edwin Rizal and Nuning Kurniasih M.Hum, reveals the role of Instagram @folkative as an alternative medium for disseminating creative, lighthearted, and easy-to-understand information to young people.

The research highlights how @folkative leverages Instagram features—from eye-catching visual design and simple language to the selection of current issues relevant to students and young people. As a result, the account successfully captures the attention of audiences who prefer consuming information via social media rather than traditional outlets.

The study shows that Instagram has evolved beyond photo sharing to become an effective platform for digital literacy. Through visual storytelling, @folkative delivers information on social, cultural, and political issues in a way that is easier for audiences to understand.

This research aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) by broadening access to educational and relevant information for young people. At the same time, it supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through the innovative use of digital technology as a communication infrastructure.

Nevertheless, the study also notes challenges such as the risk of biased information, limited explanation space on social media, and the need for fact-checking to ensure accuracy and accountability.

Looking ahead, educational accounts like @folkative are expected to grow by offering more varied, credible, and interactive content, serving as a bridge for digital literacy in the midst of today’s information overload.
