Library and Information Science Study Program Fikom Unpad held Community Service (PPM) activities in Jatigede Sumedang District for two days, namely October 27-28, 2023. There were four activities carried out in four different places, namely at the Jatigede District Office, SDN Cijeungjing 1, SMPN 1 Jatigede, and Village Library / TBM Cijeungjing Suka Ceria. PPM at SDN Cijeungjing was held by conducting an information literacy seminar and the practice of accessing digital information resources for students of SMPN 1 Jatigede on Saturday (10/28/2023).
In this activity, Wina Erwina, Ph.D., conveyed the importance of information literacy for students as a basic ability in teaching and learning, a requirement to become an information society, and in the process of lifelong learning. He said there are 5 basic skills of information and media literacy, namely defining information, searching and accessing information, assessing information, organizing information, and using information ethically. Next, Drs. Prijana, M.Si., discussed reading skills. In his presentation, he conveyed the importance of training reading speed to improve reading skills and abilities. This is because reading is one of the basic abilities in learning that is expected to increase student achievement.
Nuning Kurniasih, S.Sos, M.Hum on this occasion conveyed about cyberbullying that often afflicts students who are active on social media. He urged students to be careful when surfing social media and be open to the closest and trusted people when they get things that are not pleasing to social media. In addition, it is also important to keep personal information from being misused by irresponsible people.
The material in this activity was closed with material from Andri Yanto, S.Sos, M.I.Kom about Digital Library. He showed various digital libraries that can be accessed by students, such as iPusnas.id and BintangPusnas Edu from the National Library which can be accessed by students via mobile phones or computers. Then there is iSumedang from the Sumedang Government and Candil from the West Java Government. During the presentation, he practiced the procedures for accessing one of the digital libraries, namely Ipusnas and utilizing the available digital collections, such as reading and borrowing digital books.
The event, which was hosted by Fitri Perdana, S.Sos, M.I.Kom., was attended by representatives of the Sumedang Regency Education Office, Principals and Teachers of SMPN 1 Jatigede and 50 students of SMPN 1 Jatigede. After the opening ceremony, remarks were delivered by Dian Sinaga, M.Si as a representative of the Library and Information Science Study Program, followed by remarks from the Principal of SMPN 1 Jatigede. After the presentation and group photos, the event was closed with the distribution of snacks to all students who were participants in this activity.
