Library and Information Science Study Program Fikom Unpad held Community Service (PPM) activities in Jatigede Sumedang District for two days, namely October 27-28, 2023. There were four activities carried out in four different places, namely at the Jatigede District Office, SDN Cijeungjing 1, SMPN 1 Jatigede, and Village Library / TBM Cijeungjing Suka Ceria. PPM at SDN Cijeungjing was held by carrying out literacy socialization and disaster mitigation simulations for students of SDN Cijeungjing 1 on Friday (10/27/2023).
In this activity, Dr. Agus Rusmana, MA., conveyed the importance of knowledge about earthquake and landslide disasters to SDN Cijeungjing 1 students. This is based on the condition of SDN Cijeungjing 1, which is located among hills that are prone to landslides. He conveyed various things that need to be done in disaster mitigation, such as what items must be owned and carried when a disaster occurs and knowing the gathering point or safe place. It also conveyed the characteristics of earthquakes and landslides and procedures for saving yourself when disasters occur.
After that, students of SDN Cijeungjing 1 simulated self-rescue when a disaster occurred. Students are directed to take shelter under a table as the first action taken during an earthquake. This is a way to minimize the impact of injury due to the fall of blunt objects around. Then, students are directed to seek shelter by not scrambling with other students when exiting the building.
The Principal of SDN Cijeungjing 1 warmly welcomed this PPM activity. “This activity is very important to do, children should get this socialization and know more about disasters, especially earthquakes and landslides that are prone to occur here.” A total of 50 students of SDN Cijeungjing 1 and 7 teachers participated in this activity. Students also looked very enthusiastic and happy to participate in this activity. It is expected that from the socialization and simulation carried out, SDN Cijeungjing 1 students will become more understanding and aware of natural disasters, especially disasters that are prone to occur around them.
