Library and Information Science of Fikom Unpad Student Publishes Article on Book Return Delays at Grha Kandaga Central Library, Universitas Padjadjaran

Rumaisha Nur Farriza, a student from the Library and Information Science Program (PSI) at Fikom Unpad, has published a scholarly article titled “Analysis of Book Return Delays at Grha Kandaga Central Library, Universitas Padjadjaran.” The publication discusses library users’ attitudes toward late book returns and how their understanding of library regulations influences borrowing behavior.

This research was conducted under the supervision of Nadia Nila Farodisa, Prijana, and Evi Nursanti Rukmana from PSI Fikom Unpad. The collaboration reflects Fikom Unpad’s commitment to supporting student research that not only contributes to the advancement of knowledge but also has practical relevance for university library management.

The background of this study emphasizes the importance of compliance with borrowing regulations to maintain order in library services. Grha Kandaga Central Library faces challenges with users frequently returning collections late. The main objective of the study was to understand users’ attitudes toward late returns and the implications for collection management strategies.

The study employed a quantitative approach using theoretical tests on predetermined variables. Variable X included users’ attitudes in cognitive, affective, and conative aspects, while Variable Y covered late return behavior. The sample was selected using a non-probability quota sampling method, with a population of 189 library users borrowing collections in June 2024, and a sample of 100 users who had previously returned items late. Analysis was conducted using Pearson Product Moment correlation to measure the strength of the relationship between the variables.

The results showed a correlation coefficient ⍴ (rho) of 0.413, indicating a moderate linear relationship between users’ attitudes and late return behavior. Users’ knowledge and understanding of borrowing regulations influenced their feelings and decisions when facing late return situations. These findings provide valuable insights for libraries in designing more effective strategies to prevent late returns and improve user compliance.

The article has been published in Jurnal Pustaka Ilmiah, Vol. 10, No. 2, December 2024, pages 194-209. The findings offer guidance for university library managers in understanding user behavior and enhancing collection management and services.

This research is relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education and Goal 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. By highlighting library users’ behavior toward late returns, this work contributes to creating a more orderly and effective library system.
