LIS Fikom Unpad Students Research the Implementation of Family Record Management in Cikurutug Elos Village

Bandung, 2024 — Research by PSI Fikom Unpad students Lukman, supervised by Dr. Edwin Rizal, and Fitri Perdana, M.I.Kom, highlights how the community of Kampung Cikurutug Elos, Sukabumi, effectively manages family records amid the challenges of the digital age.

The study found that residents applied the records life cycle principles in managing family documents, including creation, use, organization, and disposition. Essential documents such as family cards, birth certificates, diplomas, and land certificates are systematically organized using folders, safe storage, and preservation methods such as lamination.

In addition, some residents have adopted simple digitization practices by using smartphones to store documents digitally or through cloud storage. This not only enhances record security but also enables faster and easier information retrieval when needed.

The findings emphasize that record management awareness is crucial not only in formal institutions but also within families as the smallest social unit. Proper management ensures protection of rights, identity, and the preservation of family memory.

This research aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) by strengthening public literacy in information and record management from the household level. It also supports SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), since secure and transparent record-keeping contributes to fairness, accountability, and good governance.

The researchers recommend enhancing archival literacy programs in rural communities and encouraging government support to standardize and sustain digital family record management practices.
