Raisya Rizka Nayla Yusmafida, a student of the Library and Information Science Program (PSI), Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, together with supervising lecturers Siti Chaerani Djen Amar and Evi Nursanti Rukmana, has published a scientific article entitled “The Role of Libraries in Preventing Plagiarism: A Narrative Literature Review.”
The article was published in Journal of Library and Information Science, Vol. 4, No. 3, September 2024. The study highlights the vital role of libraries in preventing plagiarism, a phenomenon frequently occurring in academic and professional contexts.
The research employed a narrative literature review, analyzing eleven references related to the role of libraries in plagiarism prevention. The findings indicate that libraries significantly contribute through the provision of comprehensive information sources and services. Effective collection management and the implementation of technology in library services are essential in optimizing the use of information resources.
The study also identifies the negative impacts of plagiarism, including career obstacles and reduced future opportunities for perpetrators, as well as losses for the original information owners. For libraries, plagiarism can diminish institutional credibility and integrity. In conclusion, libraries play a crucial role in preventing plagiarism by promoting awareness and proactive measures to combat unethical practices.
This article is relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), emphasizing the importance of libraries as institutions supporting academic integrity and ethical use of information.
