A student of the Library and Information Science Program, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, Nur Indah Srirezeki, has published a scientific article titled “The Influence of Library Service Quality on Community Reading Interest: A Correlation Study on the Library Service Quality of Bogor City Library toward the Reading Interest of Bogor Community Using the LibQUAL+™ Model.” This publication was supervised by LIS Fikom Unpad lecturers, Sukaesih and Encang Saepudin.
The research was conducted in Bogor City with a focus on the role of libraries in fostering community reading interest. The article was officially published in 2024 in the INNOVATIVE Journal of Social Science Research.
This study was motivated by the relatively low reading interest index in Indonesia, including in West Java, which remains below the national average. Reading plays a vital role in lifelong learning, human resource development, and cultural access. In this context, libraries hold a strategic function as providers of educational services as well as motivators for increasing reading interest.
The research applied a correlation study using the LibQUAL+™ model, which evaluates library service quality through three main dimensions: Affect of Service, Information Control, and Library as Place.
Findings indicate that overall library service quality significantly influences community reading interest. However, partially, the Affect of Service variable—related to staff performance—did not show a significant effect. In contrast, Information Control and Library as Place proved to have a substantial impact on enhancing reading interest, particularly among high school and university students.
These results emphasize that information quality, ease of access, and comfortable library facilities are more dominant factors in creating an academic environment that supports reading and research activities.
This research is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), highlighting the role of libraries in strengthening literacy access and educational equity.
