Library and Information Science Study Program Collaborated with the Library of Management Office Universitas Padjadjdaran

SUMEDANG – The Library and Information Science Study Program at the Faculty of Communication Science, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), is once again showing its commitment to improving community literacy. Through a Community Service Program (PPM), Unpad provided a book grant and guidance to the “Bunda Literasi” (Literacy Ambassador) of Jemah Village. This event was part of a cultural literacy festival titled “Village Libraries as Organizers of Cultural Literacy Festivals in the Jatigede District, Sumedang Regency.”

The event took place on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Jemah Village Library in Jatigede District, Sumedang Regency. The main focus was to provide concrete support to enhance the village library’s collection and management. It is hoped that this initiative will help the village library become an engaging and effective hub for promoting a love of reading among residents.

The book grant and guidance were an initiative by lecturers from the Fikom Unpad Library and Information Science Study Program and the Unpad Library Management Office. The Head of the Unpad Library Management Office, Dr. Ute Lies Siti Khadijah, M.Si., attended the event along with a team of lecturers. The lecturers involved were Dr. Elnovani Lusiana, S.Sos., M.Si, Wina Erwina, M.A., Ph.D., Dr. Tine Silvana R., M.Si., Asep Saeful Rohman, S.Sos., M.I.Kom., Rizki Nurislaminingsih, S.Sos., M.A., and Febriyanti Bifakhlina, M.P. They also involved students from the study program to help ensure the event ran smoothly and to provide them with direct field experience.

The main activities included presenting the book grant to the Jemah Village Library and a mentoring session for the Literacy Ambassador. Lecturers from the Fikom Unpad Library and Information Science Study Program provided guidance on effective book management, collection arrangement, and promotional strategies to make the library more well-known and utilized by the community.

The main goal of this event is to transform the village library into a vibrant hub for literacy and cultural activities that will engage all residents. The book grant and guidance are expected to strengthen the role of the “Bunda Literasi” (Literacy Ambassador) and the village library managers in boosting community interest in reading and expanding their knowledge, while also supporting the sustainability of the cultural literacy festival in the region.
