LIS Fikom Unpad Student Proposes Green Tourism Strategies for Post-Pandemic ‘Glamping’ Accommodations

A student from the Library and Information Science (LIS) Study Program at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, Ghaziana Zhafarini, has contributed a strategic analysis of modern tourism trends in a book chapter. The work, published in 2024, was written under the guidance of lecturers, Dr. Kurniawan Saefullah, S.E., M.Ec, and Dr. Drs. Yunus Winoto, M.Pd.

The article within the book chapter is titled “STRATEGIES FOR OPTIMIZING THE STAY EXPERIENCE THROUGH THE EMPOWERMENT OF GREEN TOURISM AREAS FOR GLAMPING ACCOMMODATIONS.” This writing was motivated by the significant shift in public tourism preferences post-pandemic, which shows a major shift towards nature-based tourism.

In her study, Ghaziana Zhafarini explains that the pandemic has encouraged tourists to seek more open destinations that are closer to nature. This trend places sustainability as a fundamental aspect that must be implemented by tourism destination managers, including in the accommodation sector.

This article highlights the important role of accommodation in supporting environmentally friendly tourism practices. One of the standards discussed is the CHSE (Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environment Sustainability) certification. The application of such standards not only enhances the competitiveness of the tourism industry at a global level but also contributes directly to the preservation of nature, culture, and the improvement of the local community’s quality of life.

Specifically, this study focuses on glamping (glamorous camping) accommodations, whose popularity continues to rise. The main strategy proposed is the optimization of the stay experience through the empowerment of green tourism areas. This means that glamping operators are not just selling luxury in the midst of nature, but must also actively empower and preserve the surrounding environment to create an authentic and responsible experience.

Furthermore, the writing also emphasizes that the success of sustainable tourism depends not only on service providers but also on the behavior of tourists. Pro-environment attitudes shown by tourists, both before and during their travels, are a key factor in realizing a truly sustainable tourism ecosystem.
