A student from the Library and Information Science (LIS) Study Program at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, Graceline Esterini Mulyana, has published a scientific article that maps the global research landscape of digital literacy among adolescents. The article, published in 2024, was written with the support of LIS lecturers, Yunus Winoto and Ute Lies Khadijah.
The study, titled “Bibliometric Analysis of Research Trends in Digital Literacy Among Adolescents in the Scopus Database,” aims to identify publication developments, research trends, and discover potential novelty in the topic. This mapping is important for understanding the direction and focus of studies on digital literacy for the highly dynamic adolescent demographic.
To achieve its objectives, this study applies a descriptive quantitative method with a bibliometric analysis approach. Research data was collected from the international scientific database Scopus, which was then analyzed to see patterns and relationships between studies using VOSviewer software.
One of the main findings from this research is a significant increase in the number of research publications on adolescent digital literacy. This indicates that the topic is gaining increasing attention among global academics. Keyword analysis also shows that current research is still closely related to the topics of “human,” “education,” and “social media.”
More than just mapping existing trends, this research also successfully identifies areas that have the potential to become novel topics for future research. Some of the topics recommended for deeper exploration are the connection of digital literacy with “writing” skills, the dynamics of “social networks,” and the issue of “digital inclusion.”
This scientific work makes an important contribution by presenting a clear map of the current state of adolescent digital literacy research, while also providing a directional guide for future studies. The results of this analysis can be utilized by researchers, educators, and policymakers to develop more relevant and effective digital literacy programs for the younger generation.
