Service Quality and Information Access: UNPAD Lecturers and Student Research the Effectiveness of Bogor City Public Library

Bogor City, January 28, 2025 — A research team from the Library and Information Science (PSI) Study Program at Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD), comprising a lecturer and a student, has completed a significant study on the role of libraries in improving literacy. The study, titled “Service Quality and Information Access at the Bogor City Public Library,” highlights how the library effectively meets the information needs of students and university students.

The research was led by lecturers Encang Saepudin and Ute Lies Siti Khadijah, along with student Nur Indah Srirezeki. The background for this study is the ongoing challenge of improving reading interest in Indonesia. The primary goal of the research was to analyze the quality of services and ease of information access at the Bogor City Public Library, with a focus on its users: students and university students.

Using a descriptive quantitative approach, the research team collected data from 68 respondents who are students and university students using the public library. The sample was selected using a simple random sampling technique from a total population of 212 people. Data were gathered through online questionnaires, supplemented by interviews, observation, and literature reviews to ensure comprehensive findings.

The research findings indicate that the service quality and ease of information access at the Bogor City Public Library are highly effective in meeting the information needs of its users. This finding proves that supportive facilities and the use of modern technology can create a conducive environment for learning and research activities.

The study specifically emphasizes that the availability of modern equipment and facilities that enable self-service in information access is a major contributing factor. This not only makes it easier for users to find information but also motivates them to be more active and frequent visitors to the library.

This academic publication provides valuable insights for library managers to continuously improve their services. The research also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting access to education and information, and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by ensuring that every individual has an equal opportunity to access information.

The article has been published in the Sinta 5 Journal, Innovative, making it an important reference source. It is hoped that these findings will inspire other libraries to make similar improvements to support the increase of reading interest and literacy in Indonesia.
