BANDUNG, 2025 – Two students from the Library and Information Science (LIS) Study Program at Fikom Unpad, Fina Apriyana and Naresh Aurelia Berliana, along with two lecturers, Ute Lies Siti Khadijah and Saleha Rodiah, have published a scientific article titled “Knowledge management in preserving the Seren Taun tradition in Cigugur Kuningan”. This publication examines the role of knowledge management in facing the challenges of modernization and ensuring the sustainability of the Seren Taun traditional ceremony in Cigugur, Kuningan Regency.
The background of this research is the sustainability of the Seren Taun tradition which faces challenges in the modern era. This traditional ceremony is full of cultural values and local wisdom, but the transmission of its knowledge needs to be continuously improved to remain relevant and appreciated by the younger generation. This study aims to examine how knowledge management can play a role in preserving this tradition.
To answer this question, the research used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data was collected through observation, interviews with the traditional community, the Seren Taun committee, community leaders, and documentation studies.
The research results show that human aspects (knowledge from traditional elders, involvement of the younger generation), organizational aspects (the role of the Tri Mulya Tri Wikrama Foundation and the committee), and technology (social media and digital platforms) have an important role in managing and passing on knowledge about Seren Taun. Nevertheless, there are challenges such as a lack of systematic documentation and the participation of the younger generation.
This scientific article has been published in Informatio: Journal of Library and Information Science, Vol. 5, No. 1, January 2025. The findings of this research provide valuable insight that a knowledge management approach can be a solution to bridge the wisdom of the past with the present generation, ensuring that traditions remain alive and sustainable.
This research is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely point 4 on Quality Education and point 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities. This shows that the application of knowledge management can contribute to improving education about local culture and preserving cultural heritage, which are important parts of sustainable communities.
