Library and Information Science Study Program, Fikom, Unpad, held a discussion with the Geological Survey Center of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Unpad on Monday (7/10/2023). This discussion discussed a collaboration in the acceleration of library material management in the earth sector. The collaboration aims to build synergy and collaboration in the development of library materials processing in the geothermal field, as well as improving human resources, for the benefit of both parties.
The discussions carried out resulted in several agreed points of cooperation, 1) processing of library materials and development of the Perpustakaan Geologi. 2) developing the competency of human resources including librarians and library managers, teaching staff, and/or students, including through education programs, training, Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) programs, practicums, and/or final assignments according to agreed requirements. 3) exchange of data, information, knowledge, and utilization of human resources and facilities owned by both parties to support work implementation activities. 4) produce output in the form of scientific articles and publication of joint activities. 5) other activities agreed upon by both parties.
Library materials management activities include several things that need to be considered. Mr. Asep Saeful Rohman, S.Sos., M.I.Kom., said that in library materials management, information organization is very important for a special library. This relates to the accessibility and retrieval of information. To create accessible information, easy access, digitizing library materials is one of the ways that can be done. In addition, Mr. Kusnandar, S.Sos., M.Si., as Head of the Fikom Unpad Digital Heritage Management Laboratory, said that digitizing library materials is part of the concept of preserving digital heritage as proclaimed by UNESCO in 2003. The digital heritage can be formed in the digital born collections and digitized collections, for example changing the format of VHS video collections into digital format.
From this collaboration, hopefully, the Library and Information Science Study Program of Fikom Unpad and the Geological Survey Center of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will receive mutual benefits. These benefits include practical work opportunities through the MBKM program for the Library and Information Science Study Program, Fikom Unpad. As well as for the Geological Survey Center of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources can receive human resource development facilities through seminars, training, and conferences.
