Library and Information Science Study Program Fikom Unpad held Community Service (PKM) activities in Jatigede Sumedang District for two days, namely October 27-28, 2023. There were four activities carried out in four different places, namely at the Jatigede District Office, SDN Cijeunjing 1, SMPN 1 Jatigede, and Village Library / TBM Cijeungjing Suka Ceria.
PKM in Jatigede District was held by carrying out Forum Group Discussions (FGD) on Literacy and Disaster Mitigation Simulation. This activity was attended by the Head and Secretary of the Subdistrict, sub-district staff, Head of Community Empowerment, Mother of District Literacy, Teachers, PKK Cadres, and Public Services. The event was opened with remarks from representatives of the Library and Information Science Study Program, the Head of Jatigede District, and the Head of the Economic and Development Section of Sumedang Regency.
This FGD was delivered by Prof. Dr. Hj. Ninis Agustini D., M.Lib. regarding steps in carrying out disaster mitigation simply because, as is well known, disasters are the closest thing to the community. Dr. H. Edwin Rizal, M.Si, said related to the fire disaster that fire is one of the events that often befall residents. Community understanding and preparedness to face disasters are needed especially fire disaster mitigation.
This FGD activity was delivered by Dr. Ute Lies Khadijah, S.Sos, M.Si., as the Head of the Library and Information Science Study Program aimed at increasing understanding, knowledge, and insight of the people of Jatigede District, especially government officials and cadres related to disasters and mitigation efforts. “Disasters are things that are close to the community, disasters are often unpredictable. Through this PKM, it is hoped that it can increase the insight and preparedness of the community against disasters, especially fires.”
