The preservation of local wisdom in disaster mitigation is a need by building disaster mitigation literacy based on local knowledge in the community. It was conveyed by Prof. Dr. Ninis Agustini Damayani, M.Lib., in a scientific oration at the Inauguration Ceremony and Scientific Oration of the Professor Position of Communication Studies on Wednesday (8/3/2023) at Grha Sanusi Hardjadinata Unpad Iwa Koesoemasoemantri Campus, Bandung. The event was opened by Unpad Chancellor Prof. Rina Indiastuti and led by the Chairperson of the Unpad Professor Council, Prof. Arief Anshory Yusuf.
The oration entitled “Literacy of Disaster Mitigation Based on Local Wisdom” has a background in the lives of the people of Pangandaran Beach who have local disaster mitigation wisdom from the Seni Badud and Hajat Laut. She sees that it needs to preserve the local knowledge in disaster mitigation through various strategic communications that are by the characteristics of the community.
The Inauguration of Professors and Scientific Oration had filled with testimonies from representatives of Prof. Dr. Ninis Agustini Damayani, M.Lib.,’s family, represented by her daughter. Astrid expressed her pride for her mother for her persistence and hard work in achieving her dreams while still being a great mother, loving, and close to the family. (TN)
