Evi Nursanti Rukmana, a lecturer from the Library and Information Science Program, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, together with Shelpi Nur Awaliyah, Dr. Ute Lies Siti Khadijah, and Dr. Rully Khairul Anwar, has published a scientific article entitled “Cultural Information Literacy of Banyumas Migrant Communities in Bandung in Preserving Banyumasan Arts.” The article explores the role of cultural information literacy in sustaining traditional arts, particularly among diaspora communities.

The study was published in Informatio: Journal of Library and Information Science, Vol. 5, No. 1 (January 2025), pages 1–18. This publication is part of Fikom Unpad’s academic commitment to advancing research that is not only academically relevant but also contributes to the preservation of local culture.

The background of this research lies in the importance of cultural information literacy in maintaining traditional arts in the modern era, especially for migrant communities living away from their cultural roots. The main objective of the study is to identify forms of cultural information literacy practiced by the Genta Sentramas community, a Banyumas diaspora community in Bandung, in their efforts to preserve Banyumasan arts.

The research employed a qualitative method with purposive sampling, involving members of the Genta Sentramas community as participants. The analysis focused on how the community accesses, utilizes, and produces cultural information.

The findings reveal that cultural information literacy in the community is demonstrated through the use of information technology, including social media and digital platforms, to document and disseminate Banyumasan traditional arts to younger generations and the wider public. Other practices include visits to local cultural heritage sites and the organization of art workshops.

This study emphasizes that cultural information literacy not only facilitates access to information but also serves as an essential instrument in encouraging active community participation in preserving cultural identity. The findings highlight how diaspora communities can maintain cultural sustainability despite the challenges of modernization.

The research is highly relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education and Goal 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities. By demonstrating how cultural information literacy can strengthen the role of diaspora communities in preserving traditional arts, this work provides a meaningful contribution to sustainable development while remaining rooted in local cultural values.
