A research team involving a student from the Library and Information Science (LIS) Study Program at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, has published a scientific article that examines the geotourism potential of the Bandung Basin. The article, published in 2025, was written by Mohamad Sapari Dwi Hadian along with Mochmad Nursiyam Barkah, Ute Lies Siti Khadidjah, Ayu Krishna Yuliawati, Asti Nur Aryanti, and Sani Suhardiman.
The research, titled “Urban geotourism development in the perspective of stakeholders,” was motivated by the rapid growth of geotourism as an important component of sustainable tourism in developing countries, including Indonesia. The Bandung Basin area was chosen as the research locus due to its extraordinary geodiversity potential, characterized by geological features such as young volcanic rocks, alluvial fans, and ancient lake deposits.
The main objective of this study is to thoroughly analyze the role of each stakeholder in the effort to develop urban geotourism. To achieve this, the research team used a methodology of literature review and interviews. The collected data was then interpreted using stakeholder analysis and supplemented with descriptive analysis.
The research results successfully mapped the stakeholders into three main categories based on their level of interest and influence. These categories are primary (quadrant 1), key (quadrant 2), and secondary (quadrant 3) stakeholders. This mapping serves as a strategic foundation for determining which parties must be involved and the appropriate approach for each group.
The study concludes that the establishment of sustainable urban geotourism requires careful identification and evaluation of all parties involved. Therefore, the study recommends that future planning and management initiatives for geotourism in the Bandung Basin area can be significantly improved through the active participation of all the mapped stakeholders.
