BANDUNG – A student from the Library and Information Science (PSI) Study Program at the Faculty of Communication Science (Fikom), Padjadjaran University (Unpad), Denaya Siti Razda Azzahra, has successfully published her scientific article titled “The Initiative of the Tasikmalaya Regency Public Library in Reaching Patrons with Mobile Library Services.” Conducted in 2024, this research was supervised by Dr. Elnovani Lusiana and Dr. Rully Khairul Anwar, with a primary focus on the library’s strategy for serving communities in remote areas.
The study aimed to analyze the service strategy implemented by the Tasikmalaya Regency Public Library through its Mobile Library program. This initiative is crucial for ensuring equitable access to information, especially for communities that do not have direct access to the main library. By reaching patrons in various regions, the library can play a more active role in supporting literacy and education.
Using a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach, Denaya conducted direct observation and interviews with the Head of the Library Sub-division and several staff members. This data collection process was conducted by mutual agreement and without coercion, allowing the researcher to obtain in-depth and accurate information regarding the implementation of the mobile library services.
The research findings indicate that the mobile library service is an effective strategy for reaching patrons and providing the best service to all segments of society. Although the Tasikmalaya Regency Public Library has not yet fully met the standards set by the National Library of Indonesia’s Regulation No. 8 of 2017, it has made its best effort to fulfill the community’s information needs through this initiative.
The findings show that despite existing limitations, the Tasikmalaya Regency Public Library has proven itself to be a dedicated information institution serving the entire community. By comparing theory with the reality on the ground, the research highlights the importance of proactive initiatives in overcoming infrastructural limitations.
This scientific publication has been featured in the Educatio Journal, making a valuable contribution to the literature in the field of library science. Furthermore, the research aligns with two Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). First, SDG 4 (Quality Education), which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable education for all, where mobile libraries play a vital role in providing learning resources. Second, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), which focuses on empowering and promoting the social, economic, and political inclusion of all people, including those in remote areas. Thus, mobile library services directly contribute to efforts to reduce the information access gap.
