Training on Creating an Information Center for the Kadujaya Library, Jatigede, Sumedang

Jatigede – October 23, 2024. In a continuous effort to empower the community, the Library and Information Science Study Program (PSI) of the Faculty of Communication Science, Universitas Padjadjaran, organized a training on creating an information center. This training was held for the managers of the SEHATI Library in Kadujaya Village, Jatigede District, Sumedang Regency.

The training was led by Evi Nursanti Rukmana, M.I.Kom., a lecturer from the Library and Information Science Study Program, along with three students: Ariel Mohammad Alief Yusuf, Delfin Gusti Wanda, and Muhammad Ihsan Fauzul Haq. The training participants were the library’s female managers, who are also PKK/Posyandu cadres, including Titin Sutini, Ressi Apriyanti, and others.

This training covered a wide range of essential topics in library management, including the legal basis and role of a village library, collection development, practical descriptive and subject cataloging, library services, collection maintenance, and promotion.

The participants were very enthusiastic, especially during the practical session. They were divided into five groups to directly identify book metadata. The trainers also introduced how to determine classification numbers using a translated DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification) book and the E-DCC 23rd edition, a very helpful tool for book processing.

Through this training, the managers of the Kadujaya Village Library have acquired the skills to accurately determine book classification numbers, arrange books on shelves according to the classification system, and select and sort books to be made available to the public. The Head of the Library, Titin Sutini, and all the managers have shown remarkable ability in applying the knowledge they gained. This success is evident in the neat and organized arrangement of the books and their enthusiasm for serving the community’s information needs. This activity is part of the commitment of the Library and Information Science Study Program (PSI), Faculty of Communication Science, Universitas Padjadjaran, to support better literacy and access to information at the village level.
